about the poet:

Sappho was an Archaic Greek poet (7th-6th centuries BCE) from the island of Lesbos (Lesvos). Her poems were written to be accompanied by music, many of them celebrating love and eroticism between women. Since Antiquity, she has been considered among the greatest of the Greek lyric poets. Though she was a prolific composer, most of her work survives only in fragments.
